Chapter 3: The Contract Shreds

“You’re sure you don’t want a divorce?” Instead of the cold laugh I expected, her deep voice snapped me back to reality.

Her eyes were unreadable, the faintest arch of an eyebrow betraying...what? Disbelief? Amusement? I couldn’t tell. The way she said it made me feel like a kid who’d been caught stealing from the tiffin box and now was trying to weasel out.

“I don’t want to. Not for now.”

I watched Priya’s face, but there was no trace of happiness.
