I didn’t sleep a wink. Monday morning, I walked into class with bags under my eyes and moved to the farthest desk from Derek. I had to keep my distance—focus on my future, not the drama.
Just before class, Derek walked in. He saw me, panic in his eyes, and tried to get to me—but Aubrey stopped him.
The bell rang. I heard Aubrey say, “Derek, could you… be gentler next time? I… It’s all red marks… It really hurts.”
Aubrey tugged her collar down, flashing red splotches across her skin. Whispers spread like wildfire—everyone knew what that meant.
