Chapter 14: The Real Enemy

Just as I ready to forget Ifedike, start new life,

I jam one girl as I dey go home from studio.

She dey walk slow, hold big bag. Something for her face look familiar.

As we pass, she call me.

“You and Ifedike really break up?”

Her voice gentle, almost like whisper. I pause, turn back. My mind dey race.

I turn look am. She look familiar, but I no remember where.

Her glasses thick, she dey blink, dey adjust bag. I dey try remember her face.

I no wan do any Ifedike matter again, so I rush go, no plan answer.

My leg dey fast, but her next talk hold me for road.

But her next word freeze me.

My body just stiff, brain blank as if thunder strike me.

We enter the nearest café.

The café dey cold, small. We sit for corner. She order coffee, I just dey stir my zobo, dey wait.

One coffee, thirty minutes, but my mind still dey turn, e be like film.

She yarn, voice low, dey explain as if na movie script. I dey nod, but my ear dey buzz.
