Chapter 6: Disguises and Escape
I didn’t expect the wanted posters to come out so quickly; they were everywhere.
They tacked them up in the windows of gas stations, on the community board outside the church, even by the school bus stop. The sketch on the poster was rough, but the eyes—empty, haunted—looked too much like Marcus. My hands shook as I folded it up.
In the end, even entering and leaving the city gates required ID checks.
With no other choice, we could only hide in a motel.
If Marcus weren’t Marcus, maybe no one would recognize him...
But... I looked at the clothes in my hand, troubled, not knowing how to speak.
Having Marcus dress as a woman...
He wouldn’t agree, would he?
After hesitating for a long time, I finally shoved them over: "Marcus, here, these are for you."
"They’re... they’re women’s clothes."
My whole body tensed, my chest almost burning up.
The expected unhappy words didn’t come.
The fabric was soft, and he traced the seams with careful fingers, lips pressed tight in concentration. He thought for a moment, and his brows lowered.
"Thank you, Sam."
"I like them very much."
His voice was quiet, and it reminded me of summer thunder—low, unexpected, but somehow reassuring. I glanced away, embarrassed at my own nerves.
When Marcus changed, I waited outside the door, fanning myself nervously with my hand.
The wind was strange today—why did it get hotter the more I fanned?
Annoyed, I took out the wanted poster from my pocket and looked at it.
They said the sketch was drawn personally by Noah.
I glanced at it twice, crumpled it into a ball, and threw it away.
How dare he call himself the perfect protagonist.
The drawing was so ugly...
It didn’t capture any of Marcus’s charm.
The door clicked open from inside.
Curved brows, thin lips—truly beautiful in every way.
If only those eyes weren’t lost, he’d be even more beautiful.
Marcus was a little embarrassed too: "Is... is it okay?"
I put a wide-brimmed hat on him, the white scarf fluttering in the wind, covering his face tightly.
"Very good-looking."
He looks good in anything.
He smiled shyly, tucking a loose strand of hair behind his ear. For a moment, I almost forgot the danger waiting outside.
