Chapter 3: Caught in the Act
Carter visibly panicked.
His eyes widened, and for the first time, he looked truly afraid. His hands trembled as he tried to compose himself, his fingers fidgeting with the hem of his t-shirt.
His face went pale and he shook his head, swallowing hard.
"Honey, I can’t trouble you with everything."
"Stop pretending, you’re just afraid she’ll find that stash of colorful candies, right?"
"When will the main girl discover the truth? I want to see the faker suffer."
"Soon, he’ll cry miserably and chase his wife like crazy!"
"You VIPs get early access? Should I upgrade?"
Carter, cry? Hard to imagine.
When we married, he was ice cold.
He wore a perfect suit and spoke flatly:
"Miss Mariah Brooks, I’m your best choice."
It was true.
Back at Silver Hollow University, I’d heard about this legendary senior.
Marrying him would help my family a lot.
On our wedding night, he volunteered to sleep in the study.
I admired his gentlemanliness, though I was a little disappointed.
Apparently, he felt nothing for me.
But sometimes, I thought I heard scratching at my door at midnight.
Maybe I imagined it.
I snapped out of my memories, feigning sleepiness.
"Babe, let’s turn off the lights and sleep."
I deliberately turned my back to him, the blanket pulled up to my chin.
I wanted to see for myself—if he really did anything at midnight.
If he’s lying to me—
Even if he cries, he deserves it.
