Chapter 3: The Truth Comes Out
The Mumbai skyline glittered beyond the floor-to-ceiling windows in Arjun’s spacious office. I stood at the threshold, heart in my throat. "Mr. Arjun, is there something you need?"
He looked up from his laptop, eyes sharp. "Kabir?"
"I’m here, Mr. Arjun."
He raised an eyebrow, smirking. "Ravi?"
I feigned ignorance. "Mr. Arjun, who’s Ravi?"
He chuckled, shaking his head. "Bas karo na. Don’t act. There aren’t two people in the world with the same face and the same mole."
"What mole?" I blurted out, panicking.
Arjun pinched his earlobe. Shit. I had a mole there—just yesterday, he was kissing it. My face went stiff.
He grinned, half-amused, half-mischievous. "Arjun is my real name."
My mind raced through every excuse from ‘wrong number’ to ‘it’s my twin,’ but nothing would save me now.
I gave up and laughed awkwardly. "Mr. Arjun, what a coincidence, na."
He grinned wider. "So I’m the new boss you mentioned. If I’d known, we could’ve kept going yesterday…"
I put my hands together, pleading. "Mr. Arjun, let’s just pretend we don’t know each other at work. Strictly business, okay?"
He nodded, a little disappointed. I practically ran out of his office, nearly bumping into Ritu outside, her eyes full of questions. My heart pounded—did everyone know already?
