Chapter 8: Forensics and Family Secrets
My colleague and I discussed. He would take the forensics team to Baba Tunde’s butcher shop to gather evidence while I continued questioning, hoping to find out the motive.
'No time to waste,' he said, grabbing the kit. 'Let’s go before the meat spoils.'
“Why did you kill Nnenna? Was it for money? For revenge?”
Baba Tunde looked away, breathing heavy. The silence between us grew like a storm about to break.
“..."
He said nothing, eyes fixed on the wall, lips trembling as if fighting words inside.
“Did you assault Nnenna before she died?”
Again, silence. Not a twitch, not a sigh. The room felt heavy with secrets.

Baba Tunde looked tired and didn’t want to talk again. I tried another approach: “Do you know Nnenna’s parents?”
His shoulders slumped. 'Yes.' It was just one word, but it opened another world of questions.
I saw I wouldn’t get more from Baba Tunde for now, so I locked him up and went to meet Nnenna’s parents.
I tried to keep my face blank, but my thoughts were running wild. What are they hiding?
“Do you know Baba Tunde? Have you ever had any issues with him?”
Nnenna’s father and mother shook their heads. “We’ve never met him.”
The father’s denial was quick, but the mother’s eyes darted away. My suspicion deepened.
