Chapter 9: Family Fire

I no expect my parents go show. I never tell dem about Amaka divorce, so dem no know I don marry Morayo. Morayo parents dey ask me when dem go meet my people. Morayo, no wan make I feel awkward, dey help me dodge. I dey wait for correct time to carry Morayo go meet my parents.

So as my papa call, my body just dey shake. I rush take leave, run go house. As I reach, stairs finish, I hear Morayo dey cry.

"Daddy! Wetin you dey do!"

I enter. Morayo sit for ground, dey cry like person wey rain beat. My parents just sit for sofa, dey look her bad eye. My mama fold hand for chest, dey bite lips. I help Morayo stand, before she balance, my papa slap me one hot one. My head turn. For our place, na sign say you don cross line. Morayo scream, cry more. I know say na me wrong. Morayo no do anything.

Her tears dey drop for my shirt, my mama dey talk, "Is this how you repay Amaka?"

"Wife, abeg go room first. Calm down."

I pet Morayo, push her enter bedroom. I hear cup break for parlour. My parents question dey vex me—na Amaka I dey blame.

"Amaka, Amaka, Amaka! Na you like Amaka, no be me! We don divorce two months ago, divorce!"

I shout. All those bad feelings I think say don die, dem still dey hide for my heart.
