Chapter 4: The Morning After

My phone wake me up. The sound dey pierce through my head like needle.

Chioma still dey sleep beside me, her hand dey rest for my chest without knowing. Her breathing soft and steady, her face peaceful like angel.

Last night... My mind dey try piece everything together.

I only remember say I press Chioma for the door, dey kiss her slowly and with passion. The way she respond, soft and willing, nothing like Adaeze usual coldness.

She ask me: "Emeka, we no suppose drink first?" Her voice been get small laugh inside.

E be like say I answer. My voice been rough with emotion:

"You na my drink. Make I start first."

Then I no fit remember clearly again. Just fragments - soft skin, gentle whispers, the feeling of being wanted, truly wanted.

I squeeze my eye come press answer. Adaeze commanding tone dey the other side. Like say nothing don happen, like say she no just shame me for whole Lagos:

"Come pick me for dorm building in thirty minutes. I wan go shopping."

I reduce my voice. No wan wake the angel wey dey my side:

"Wetin your shopping get to do with me? No dey call disturb me."

After I talk, Chioma frown small come make small sound like say person disturb her. Soft "mmm" sound wey make my heart skip.

But this sensitive sound obviously reach Adaeze ear. Her voice come loud immediately. Like thunder wey just strike:

"Emeka, where you dey? Somebody dey with you? Na which ashawo you carry go house?!" The possessiveness for her voice dey ironic, considering wetin she been dey do.

"Na your business? We no get any relationship again." My voice cold like ice block.

I cut the call come off my phone. Enough of her wahala. I hear something break for her side—maybe phone hit wall.

I pull Chioma back into my arms, gently kiss her forehead. She smell like jasmine and something uniquely her.
