Chapter 1: The Second Chance
Last time around, my little sister landed in a mansion. I got the janitor’s spare room.
The truth behind those choices was no fairy tale. The Grant home was all cold marble and colder hearts: the parents as distant as a blizzard, and their only son, Ryan, a bully in a prep school blazer. In the end, my sister left their house with nothing but a battered suitcase and a pride so shattered it barely held her together.
Meanwhile, the family that took me in didn’t have much—except for laughter and a love that filled our cramped living room. Even the Grants’ golden boy, Ryan, fell for me—the quiet girl nobody noticed except when I was hiding behind the library stacks. It felt like a plot twist straight out of a Friday night CW drama.
But bitterness twisted Megan’s heart until, one night, she snapped. She killed me. Just like that, fate spun us both back to the day we were adopted.
This time, Megan shot past me, grabbing the janitor’s waist like she’d rehearsed it.
"Mom, take me home. I want to be your daughter."
She looked at me, a sly glint in her eye. "Sis, this time, it’s my turn to be the heroine of the drama."
But what she never understood was that being the heroine isn’t about where you start—it’s about every choice you make after you walk through that door.
