Chapter 6: Reunion and Release

And now, after he left without a word, I saw him again!

The more I thought about it, the more upset I became, and I cried even harder.

Kabir narrowed his eyes, waiting for me to speak.

But I just kept crying, saying nothing.

After a while, the man who’d been so angry gave in. He cupped my face and sighed, “Arrey yaar, I really fell for you!”

His thumb brushed away my tears, his voice softer than ever. Suddenly, all the anger melted away, leaving only the ache of missing him.

“So, are you leaving again?”

“Leave? Seeing you like this, how could I leave?”

I still didn’t trust him.

Tired from crying, I hugged him tightly and wouldn’t let go.

He was helpless, so he lay down with me.

I slept deeply.

When I woke, Kabir was gone!

My phone was on silent, with 99+ missed calls—half from Rohan!

Besides that, the long-quiet alumni WhatsApp group had suddenly come alive.

The alumni group was buzzing—red hearts, fire emojis, and a flood of "Welcome back, Kabir bhai!" stickers.

Rohan had sent a message about organising a reunion.

[If Senior Rohan is hosting, I’m definitely going!]

[I heard Senior Kabir is back too, invite him!]

[Senior Kabir? Kabir Mehta? When did he come back?]

[That’s him! I’m his loyal fan, I keep track of all his music! I heard he came back this time to propose to the girl he’s liked for ten years!]

Just as I was reading, my phone was snatched away.

Kabir’s face appeared close up.

He ruffled my messy hair. “Had a good sleep?”

I shook my head, slowly moving onto his lap.

“I thought you wouldn’t come.”

Before coming back, I’d emailed him my address.

He hadn’t replied.

I thought he was too busy, but as soon as I returned, there he was!

To say I wasn’t surprised would be a lie.

But beneath the surprise, there was shock.

He pulled me into his arms. “Angry?”

I hugged his waist, buried my face in his chest, and said nothing.

He softened his voice: “I left in a hurry that day, lost my phone, couldn’t contact you! Didn’t I get in touch later?”

“Not angry anymore, hmm?”

After he left, I’d been in a deep slump for a long time.

When people said he’d been taken away by a rich woman, I actually believed it!

I couldn’t reach him by phone, no WhatsApp replies—it was like he’d vanished!

If he hadn’t contacted me in time, I might’ve called the police!

Turning in his arms, I asked:

“Then why didn’t you reply to my email?”

“As soon as I got your email, I booked a ticket on MakeMyTrip. I wanted to surprise you! But you gave me a shock instead!”

Thinking of how he saw me with Rohan, he must have been shocked too!

I smiled. “But I still haven’t forgiven you!”

He lowered his head, the air between us instantly charged.

“Then I’ll have to use that method.”

I tried to run, but he grabbed my ankle and pulled me back.

Don’t be fooled by Kabir’s proper appearance—in private, he’s a completely different person!

I pushed against his chest. “Kabir, I just got off the plane…”

“It’s fine, I’ll do the work, you just relax!”

After all that, it was past midnight!

I was hungry and tired, sulking in his arms.

He seemed in a good mood and brought up the reunion.

“A good buddy of mine asked—will you come with me?”

I teased him: “Rohan will be there too. Aren’t you afraid something will happen between us?”

His hand slid down my waist, and his smile was so dazzling it made my hair stand on end!

“Go ahead and try!”

What a petty man.

But I liked him all the more for it.
