Chapter 7: Illusions and Escape

As I dey reason my life, door open—Baba Mo waka enter.

He enter, face like thunder. Him shoe dey drag ground, as if e dey carry heavy wahala. Him face dark, no talk, just give me two heavy slap, my head dey turn, eyes dey see star.

"Why you dey beat me?"

The slap loud, my teeth dey ring. "Dem say you wan run?"

I dey stammer, "No, no, I just wan go see my master." My head dey think fast.

"Which master? Your master don die since!"

The words hit me like brick. My chest choke. Baba Mo raise hand to slap me again, but I catch am.

"Na you dey talk rubbish! I just talk with my master now. She dey okay. Abi you dey curse my master because you get bad mind?"

Baba Mo shout, "Look yourself—you dey inside illusion!"

Fear catch me, I bite my tongue, taste blood, small small everything clear for my eye.

My ear dey ring, but as I look round, I see say I dey stand for railway track, train dey blow horn for my front. Baba Mo drag me commot, train just pass.

My heart dey pound, sweat dey my face, I dey shiver. For my mind, I dey pray say make e no be juju dey play with my head. "You dey under spell. I try pull you, you no gree. Even slap no work." Baba Mo fall for ground, dey breathe heavy.
