Chapter 2: Strawberry Milkshakes and Secret Swaps
Before the final bell, Natalie slid a cup of strawberry milkshake across the desk to me. “This is the first time I’ve treated you. I saved up for half a month to get the fanciest one. Don’t hate it, okay?”
Her voice was soft but hopeful, eyes darting away like she half-expected me to refuse. The cup was slick with condensation, cold droplets gathering on my fingers as I hesitated, then finally took a sip.
The chill of the milkshake made me shiver, but it tasted like summer and laughter—like something I’d almost forgotten. “Thank you. It’s delicious.” My fingers trembled as I took another sip.
Just then, a flash of white light swept across my eyes. When I blinked, the world felt different—I was actually in Natalie’s body.
“Natalie, you—”
“Shh! You’re Natalie now. Starting today, I’m Aubrey. Shotgun! Rich mom’s mine now!”
My heart leapt in my chest. The classroom buzzed around us, but for a second, it was like the world went silent just for us.
